West Bromwich Town Centre

Following the completion of the Black County Study and draft proposals now underway, which will revise the existing Regional Spatial Strategy, we are now firmly focused on delivering long-term regeneration strategies. Development proposals will transform the area over the next thirty years.

With more than £2 billion of investment Wolverhampton attended MIPIM to promote initiatives which are transforming the city into one of the Midlands first choices for living, working and doing business,

The conurbation will soon receive a huge boost with its development at Summer Row, an impressive £265 million expansion of its shopping centre core. A new Debenhams department store will be created along with 86 other retail units, leisure and residential accommodation. Construction begins next year.

Bilston Urban Village represents one of the largest regeneration projects in the black country, The 43 hectare master plan involves over 1000 new homes, 17,000 sq m of new employment uses, significant open spaces, a new Metro stop as well as leisure and health facilities. Site preparation work is underway with construction beginning next year.

North of the city the i54 is a major employment opportunity which will have an immense impact on the economy of South Staffordshire and Wolverhampton, creating up to 6000 jobs in manufacturing operations and offices. The £100million project is due to be completed by 2012.

West Bromwich Town Centre has been designated one of four key centres for the Black Country and is a top priority for RegenCo, the Urban Regeneration Company for Sandwell. Visitors to MIPIM were able to hear about plans for the transformation of West Bromwich town centre, initially through retail-led regeneration which Sandwell Metropolitan borough council has been actively promoting.

A major new retail scheme, anchored by Tesco and a new department store, will start on site this year with highways work and site clearance, while Halladale has received consent on the refurbishment of and major extension to its retail scheme at Queens Square. Together, these developments, which total some 780,000 sq ft and account for £350 million of private sector investment, will bring a vibrant new focus to the centre of West Bromwich.

RegenCo is also bringing forward plans that will include dramatically improved commercial, leisure and educational facilities and will focus on high quality residential development, right in the heart of the town.
